Can a sofa's seat height be lowered for a short person?

Customer Question

I am short, so I left the legs off my Peyton Microsuede sofa. It's sitting on the floor. There is a support bar under the couch. Since the couch is on the floor, do I need the support bar? Without it I can make the seat height even lower.

Also, the middle cushion is flat already. The cushions are not removable. Is that covered under my warranty? Can it be fixed? The sofa is almost new.

After removing the legs, there is no way to make your sofa even shorter. I'm sure you realize that, without the legs, most visitors will find your sofa quite uncomfortable.

The support bar cannot be removed.
  • Your sofa is very inexpensive, retailing between $499 - $799. The raw manufacturing cost for making this sofa (labor and material) is less than $200. Nothing has been added to this sofa that is not needed.
  • If there is a support bar, it is because the sofa will fall apart without it.
Your cushion is flat  because the manufacturer used lots of cheap fiber (and less foam) to save cost.
  • Fiber costs almost nothing. It can make cushions look very thick and plush when the sofa is new, but it has no resiliency. It does not bounce back after you sit on it.
  • Most sofas use about 1" of fiber over the foam. Your sofa's cushions appear to have far more than 1" of fiber.

Furniture warranties specifically exclude coverage for flattened cushions. It is considered "normal wear and tear." If you have only owned your sofa for a few days, the retailer may agree to replace it, but not after a few months.
