In this challenging economic environment, Simplicity Sofas has been able to grow by adhering to 3 basic principles: Innovation, quality and customer service. These are, and always will be, our commitment; and our gift to you. Over the past 6 months Simplicity Sofas sales have grown by 55%, setting new sales records in August, September and October. In the past month, we have added new employees to both our manufacturing and sales staffs. This is due to the loyalty and enthusiasm of our customers as shown by your numerous testimonies on both our web site and on independent review web sites.

As President and owner of Simplicity Sofas, one of my duties is to personally keep in contact with every single customer and to ensure that you are not only happy with our furniture, but that the entire purchasing experience is pleasant and satisfying.  For the great majority of our customers, good customer service means that everything has worked smoothly from beginning to end.  Actually, those customers have only seen the tip of our customer service.

Where we really get to shine is when a problem pops up; which doesn’t happen often.

Furniture retailers look very closely at the cost of customer service. Basically, they try to spend as little money as the customer will let them get away with. That is not the way Simplicity Sofas operates. When a customer has a problem, I do whatever it takes to make that customer not only satisfied, but awed and amazed at what we are willing to do to correct the problem. Because we own the factory, we can fix or replace things better and faster than typical retailers. Some of our best reviews are from customers who started with an issue of one kind or another.

One brief example of this – We have a customer in Charlotte, NC who ordered a sofa and love seat. They called to say that they could not fit the furniture down their stairs. .I thought, “How could this be?” I drove the 2 hours down to Charlotte, from High Point, NC, along with my engineer and we tried to figure out how to get the 2 pieces down the stairs. We couldn’t do it!  It was a 24” wide stair with two short right angle turns and a ceiling height in some areas of less than 5 ft. Even our furniture would not fit down those stairs.

The solution – We took the sofa and love seat back to our outlet store, refunded the customer’s money, and began designing a modular unit based on a completely different (and new) type of technology that will fit down those stairs. The cost of the prototype will exceed $5000 (not including patent costs), but the customers will be charged only the same amount they paid for the original sofa and love seat. When the prototype is ready, we will deliver the new modular sofa to Charlotte, install it in the basement, and then, if the customer approves, we will charge for the furniture.

That’s what customer service is all about!

Let’s explore some options and fabric combinations that may help you in designing a space that’s right for you.

Existing Décor
There are so many fabrics available that will work nicely with any existing décor. One thing you need to think about when selecting the fabric is the room’s lighting and how it affects the color of the fabric. First, you need to consider the natural lighting. If your project involves a room that gets the morning sunlight, where you drink your mocha and read the news before heading out the door, consider light and airy fabrics that the sun can complement. The sun doesn’t alter these fabric colors as it might darker ones in this environment.

Even if you don’t have a lot of natural sunlight at anytime during the day, brighter colors can be mixed and matched to lighten it up a bit. The brighter colors will bring the darker room alive and make it an inviting living space. Adding some strategically placed lighting and a mirror or two will help liven it up, as well.

Decide what type of seating you need. If you live in a small apartment and want to just add a piece or two such as a small couch, chair or an apartment sofa; prints, solid colors, and small stripes work well. If you are trying to match furniture already in the room, a solid color would obviously be your best choice. With over 70 fabrics to choose from, you’ll be able to mix and match with ease. Starting from Scratch
If you are starting with a clean slate; in other words, an open room where you can add a few pieces of seating and new paint color – start by figuring out which fabrics you want to consider first for your home furnishings. Try to select the fabrics you like best BEFORE the paint color. It’s easier to find a paint color to compliment a fabric than the other way around in most situations where you are starting from scratch.

 As stated before, the room’s lighting will affect the appearance of the fabric color AND the paint color. There can be a noticeable difference between natural sunlight and various types of artificial lighting from morning to night. Certain colors can appear cooler or warmer depending on the lighting. Bright, natural light shows colors most accurately and can help determine the ideal color to use.

Fabrics with patterns can add interest to the room and make a sofa or small couch the center of attention. Again, don’t be afraid to mix and match a pattern with a solid color to compliment the grouping.

Your chair and ottoman can be a completely different color than the apartment sofa! Adding slipcovers and contrasting throw pillows can also change the look, whether you are adding to your existing décor or starting from scratch.

Everyone is turning to remodeling as opposed to selling and upgrading. The first thing you should do is add “color” to your existing lifestyle — and change it as often as you like.

Even if it’s only paint on a wall!

Make it easy. Start with “one room” — and my 3 questions:
#1) Can you start with one room? Yes.
#2) Do you spend a lot of time in this room? Yes.
#3) Are you ready to start with this room? Yes.

If the answer to these 3 questions are all YES!

I can’t go and spend money frivolously on items that are meaningless anymore; such as impulse buys that will eventually end up on a back cupboard shelf, the back of a closet, or under the children’s beds. I have to be smart about how I spend my hard earned dollars now.

So Do it with Color!

I’m only talking about remodeling to the extent of painting one wall and an old piece of wood furniture, or at the very least, moving an apartment sofa, studio sofa or living room set to a different Safe Space in the room. You’ll find that in doing so; it will make all the difference in the world!

This does not have to come with a great deal of thought. It just means moving your precious belongings around to new Safe Spaces. Try it when you’re bored. Add a couple pieces if you can afford it and above all, get rid of the clutter and add color.

Repaint JUST One Wall.

Hang a mirror or two while you’re at it, particularly on a dark wall if you are in a small space. Everyone can see the room from most angles this way. How happy you will be while you sit back and watch them enjoy the fruits of your labor from all angles.
