In this challenging economic environment, Simplicity Sofas has been able to grow by adhering to 3 basic principles: Innovation, quality and customer service. These are, and always will be, our commitment; and our gift to you. Over the past 6 months Simplicity Sofas sales have grown by 55%, setting new sales records in August, September and October. In the past month, we have added new employees to both our manufacturing and sales staffs. This is due to the loyalty and enthusiasm of our customers as shown by your numerous testimonies on both our web site and on independent review web sites.

As President and owner of Simplicity Sofas, one of my duties is to personally keep in contact with every single customer and to ensure that you are not only happy with our furniture, but that the entire purchasing experience is pleasant and satisfying.  For the great majority of our customers, good customer service means that everything has worked smoothly from beginning to end.  Actually, those customers have only seen the tip of our customer service.

Because we own the factory, we can fix or replace things better and faster than typical retailers. Some of our best reviews are from customers who started with an issue of one kind or another.

One brief example of this – We have a customer in Charlotte, NC who ordered a sofa and love seat. They called to say that they could not fit the furniture down their stairs. .I thought, “How could this be?” I drove the 2 hours down to Charlotte, from High Point, NC, along with my engineer and we tried to figure out how to get the 2 pieces down the stairs. We couldn’t do it!  It was a 24” wide stair with two short right angle turns and a ceiling height in some areas of less than 5 ft. Even our furniture would not fit down those stairs.

The solution – We took the sofa and love seat back to our outlet store, refunded the customer’s money, and began designing a modular unit based on a completely different (and new) type of technology that will fit down those stairs. The cost of the prototype will exceed $5000 (not including patent costs), but the customers will be charged only the same amount they paid for the original sofa and love seat. When the prototype is ready, we will deliver the new modular sofa to Charlotte, install it in the basement, and then, if the customer approves, we will charge for the furniture.

That’s what customer service is all about!

Got Pets or Children? Most people do.

Do you live where your children and pets run around inside and outside? If so, you know how time consuming it can be to clean up after them. Most of our children and furry friends like to enjoy the same comforts of home that we do by  napping or playing on our sofas and sometimes, accidents happen.

Simplicity Sofas offers “kid proof” fabrics specifically engineered for people who don’t want to worry about dirt or stains on their sofas or couches.

Originally created for health care facilities where cleanliness is mandatory, the engineers at Microfibres, Inc. (an American fabric manufacturer) came up with an exclusive process for binding a permanent protective coating into the fibers of the fabrics. The protection does not wear off like spray-on fabric protectors. In factory tests the only stain that could not be removed with soap and water was mustard.

We ran a test in our Showroom on our Altima Sand “kid-proof” fabric (an off-white color) to see how stain-proof it was. We drew one line with a ballpoint pen and then another line with a thick, black new permanent marker. We allowed both stains to set for about an hour. We then tried to clean the stains using liquid hand soap and a paper towel. The ball point pen ink came out in a few seconds.

The permanent marker stain was almost completely gone after 5 minutes of scrubbing. The stain proofing is built into the fibers. You do not need the spray-on fabric protection with the microfiber “kid-proof” fabrics. We do highly recommend the spray-on fabric protection for the cotton fabrics.

Even if you don’t have kids or pets, these fabrics are wonderful solutions for high traffic areas like the den or family room, where people aren’t always careful about where they spill things or where they rest their feet to watch TV. “Kid-proof” fabrics can be your solution to these problems. If an accident should occur, these fabrics clean easily with a little soap and water and dry very fast.

Small apartments or studio lofts need to change a little for the Holidays. Granted, you have created your own image and added the perfect“decor,” but you need to add or change somethings here or there for the holidays.

For some it’s easy, for others you’re thinking …. “Hmmm … I have everything in place for my lifestyle; where do I put all these holiday decorations so they do not over crowd what I have already accomplished? How do I put more things into this small space?”

It can be a daunting task. But you don’t have to spend your Holiday bonus on over-decorating to make it a Winter Wonderland.  Here are some ideas to get your Holiday decorating off to the right start if you live in a small space.

Consider these choices.

Work with what you have. Move a chair from one corner of the room to another (or to another room entirely!) to create some space for additional gatherings for guests to stand and mingle.

Place a small holiday tree in that space.

Arrange your tree and decorations on top of an already existing accent table and do not bother moving anything. Create your own festive design in that space, if you choose.

Mantle Beware! Overcrowding the mantle will make your space seem even smaller. Simple candles and some Holiday pictures of days gone by will do just fine.

If you are weary of moving things around, try stacking poinsettias on top of different sized boxes bunched together in the room to create a festive focal point. You can pick up empty boxes in any size from any grocery. Turn the boxes upside down, drape some fabric around the bases, place your poinsettias (which will last forever) on the boxes and you’re done.

It only takes up a little space and your apartment sofa or chair doesn’t need to be moved to accommodate this. Your guests won’t ever have to ‘guess’ where to place their party gifts. They’ll know to place them right around your poinsettia tree.

I thought of a great idea today, too. Take your old twinkling lights (that are still working from last year, right?) and wrap them around your tallest plant(s). Sit back and relax to your favorite music and watch them twinkle. Hang a Charlie Brown red ornament or “your” favorite ornament on the plant if it works for you.

Or … bunch a few different sized plants together (tall, small and wide) and wrap the twinkling lights around them. You can do this to create a holiday experience in many rooms.

Everyone is turning to remodeling as opposed to selling and upgrading. The first thing you should do is add “color” to your existing lifestyle — and change it as often as you like.

Even if it’s only paint on a wall!

Make it easy. Start with “one room” — and my 3 questions:
#1) Can you start with one room? Yes.
#2) Do you spend a lot of time in this room? Yes.
#3) Are you ready to start with this room? Yes.

If the answer to these 3 questions are all YES!

I can’t go and spend money frivolously on items that are meaningless anymore; such as impulse buys that will eventually end up on a back cupboard shelf, the back of a closet, or under the children’s beds. I have to be smart about how I spend my hard earned dollars now.

So Do it with Color!

I’m only talking about remodeling to the extent of painting one wall and an old piece of wood furniture, or at the very least, moving an apartment sofa, studio sofa or living room set to a different Safe Space in the room. You’ll find that in doing so; it will make all the difference in the world!

This does not have to come with a great deal of thought. It just means moving your precious belongings around to new Safe Spaces. Try it when you’re bored. Add a couple pieces if you can afford it and above all, get rid of the clutter and add color.

Repaint JUST One Wall.

Hang a mirror or two while you’re at it, particularly on a dark wall if you are in a small space. Everyone can see the room from most angles this way. How happy you will be while you sit back and watch them enjoy the fruits of your labor from all angles.
