In this challenging economic environment, Simplicity Sofas has been able to grow by adhering to 3 basic principles: Innovation, quality and customer service. These are, and always will be, our commitment; and our gift to you. Over the past 6 months Simplicity Sofas sales have grown by 55%, setting new sales records in August, September and October. In the past month, we have added new employees to both our manufacturing and sales staffs. This is due to the loyalty and enthusiasm of our customers as shown by your numerous testimonies on both our web site and on independent review web sites.

As President and owner of Simplicity Sofas, one of my duties is to personally keep in contact with every single customer and to ensure that you are not only happy with our furniture, but that the entire purchasing experience is pleasant and satisfying.  For the great majority of our customers, good customer service means that everything has worked smoothly from beginning to end.  Actually, those customers have only seen the tip of our customer service.

Where we really get to shine is when a problem pops up; which doesn’t happen often.

Furniture retailers look very closely at the cost of customer service. Basically, they try to spend as little money as the customer will let them get away with. That is not the way Simplicity Sofas operates. When a customer has a problem, I do whatever it takes to make that customer not only satisfied, but awed and amazed at what we are willing to do to correct the problem. Because we own the factory, we can fix or replace things better and faster than typical retailers. Some of our best reviews are from customers who started with an issue of one kind or another.

One brief example of this – We have a customer in Charlotte, NC who ordered a sofa and love seat. They called to say that they could not fit the furniture down their stairs. .I thought, “How could this be?” I drove the 2 hours down to Charlotte, from High Point, NC, along with my engineer and we tried to figure out how to get the 2 pieces down the stairs. We couldn’t do it!  It was a 24” wide stair with two short right angle turns and a ceiling height in some areas of less than 5 ft. Even our furniture would not fit down those stairs.

The solution – We took the sofa and love seat back to our outlet store, refunded the customer’s money, and began designing a modular unit based on a completely different (and new) type of technology that will fit down those stairs. The cost of the prototype will exceed $5000 (not including patent costs), but the customers will be charged only the same amount they paid for the original sofa and love seat. When the prototype is ready, we will deliver the new modular sofa to Charlotte, install it in the basement, and then, if the customer approves, we will charge for the furniture.

That’s what customer service is all about!

Got Pets or Children? Most people do.

Do you live where your children and pets run around inside and outside? If so, you know how time consuming it can be to clean up after them. Most of our children and furry friends like to enjoy the same comforts of home that we do by  napping or playing on our sofas and sometimes, accidents happen.

Simplicity Sofas offers “kid proof” fabrics specifically engineered for people who don’t want to worry about dirt or stains on their sofas or couches.

Originally created for health care facilities where cleanliness is mandatory, the engineers at Microfibres, Inc. (an American fabric manufacturer) came up with an exclusive process for binding a permanent protective coating into the fibers of the fabrics. The protection does not wear off like spray-on fabric protectors. In factory tests the only stain that could not be removed with soap and water was mustard.

We ran a test in our Showroom on our Altima Sand “kid-proof” fabric (an off-white color) to see how stain-proof it was. We drew one line with a ballpoint pen and then another line with a thick, black new permanent marker. We allowed both stains to set for about an hour. We then tried to clean the stains using liquid hand soap and a paper towel. The ball point pen ink came out in a few seconds.

The permanent marker stain was almost completely gone after 5 minutes of scrubbing. The stain proofing is built into the fibers. You do not need the spray-on fabric protection with the microfiber “kid-proof” fabrics. We do highly recommend the spray-on fabric protection for the cotton fabrics.

Even if you don’t have kids or pets, these fabrics are wonderful solutions for high traffic areas like the den or family room, where people aren’t always careful about where they spill things or where they rest their feet to watch TV. “Kid-proof” fabrics can be your solution to these problems. If an accident should occur, these fabrics clean easily with a little soap and water and dry very fast.

Style and Substance Matters. Let’s look at a few options.

Studio Apartments
If you are moving into a studio apartment, some people choose sleeper sofas. Sometimes there just isn’t enough space for everything like small couches, chairs, tables, bed and other items. A sleeper sofa is a great space saving option as the piece is not only a full-size sofa which allows for maximum seating for guests when they arrive, but it is also a place for you to sleep comfortably when they leave.

If you place tray tables on top of the ottomans, they can double as cocktail tables for you or your guest. When you are ready for bed, move the ottomans to either side of your sleeper sofa, easily transforming them into nightstands. Or slide the ottomans to the end of the sleeper sofa and pull out your favorite book from the storage compartment. Keep the colors of the walls and the fabrics of your upholstery complimenting, yet contrasting, as this adds drama to any small room. If you are allowed to paint the walls and considering new apartment furniture – - contrary to popular belief; paint the walls last! It may be a bit harder to do this, since the space is so small. But I recommend selecting your fabric and accessories first and backing into the wall color last. It’s easier to repaint than reupholster …

Warehouse Lofts
Are you redecorating your loft?

If you have the luxury of an open and airy space in a warehouse loft, laden with wood or brick as your backdrop, place a couple of small couches facing each other so you can see and interact with your invited guest. You can also add the storage ottomans to double as cocktail tables between the two sofas and keep a good scrabble game and conversation going.

Even if you have limited space in your loft apartment, floating a small couch in the middle of the loft will give you the extra seating you need to watch TV or chat with neighbors that pop in.

Do you have a roommate, but still want your own space in the living commons? Consider arranging a couple of chairs and a half near a large window away from the floating sofa. Place an accent table or bunching tables between the two chairs. This gives you and your housemate your own places to relax in silent comfort of the warm sun or, share conversation without having to share the small sofa. You can add a storage ottoman to the end of each chair and you both have your own space for magazines, books or laptops.

If you are lucky enough to have the original cement flooring in your loft, make sure you creatively paint it and accent with throw rugs which in and of itself creates separate spaces in a warehouse loft.

Small Apartments
Are you downsizing to a small apartment? Or are you moving from your studio apartment into a tiny bit bigger space to accommodate a new child or relative? Where do you put all the stuff? Even though there are lots of possibilities with both scenarios above, (see studio apartments and warehouse lofts ideas above), small apartments can be the most challenging, but still offer plenty of options.

Depending on your particular space, one thing you need to consider in a small apartment is your interior room measurements. There are a lot of options from Simplicity Sofas to fit EVERY need. When it comes to small apartments, our loveseats, small apartment sofas, chairs and full-size sleeper sofas will fit up your narrow stairs or elevator and through any door. Just have a pretty clear idea of where to place the items once they get there.

I have always been a proponent of the “two loveseats facing each other” concept. It allows for maximum space in a small apartment and if you have a roommate or someone else living with you, you each have your own place in the living room to relax without sitting on top of each other or bringing in uncomfortable futons. Forget the futon! And don’t forget, storage ottomans and/or nesting tables which are always popular ideas for decorating and maximizing the small apartment space.

Wall color, upholstery color and properly-sized placement of mirrors and artwork are all important in a small apartment. All, if chosen and placed accordingly will make the room look and feel larger.
